Natural Reaction Self Defense

Use Your Natural Instincts To Defend Yourself

The Need for Natural Response Self Defense

You have finished a long day at work. As you walk through the parkade to your car your mind is working overtime. “Do I need to stop at the store for anything?” “Where on earth are my keys?” “I need to organize my purse.” Your eyes are focused downward as you dig through your purse looking for your keys. You are walking in the general direction of your car but with that hesitant gait of a body being led by a preoccupied mind.

The man standing silently between two tall s.u.v.’s is watching and he knows you are the perfect target. His intentions? Who knows. But he starts walking up behind you. His footsteps register somewhere in the back of your mind  but the thought is quickly brushed aside as you scuff your foot on a speed bump.

Just as you curse under your breath you feel his arm around your neck. You feel his other hand around your waist as he pulls you against himself and lifts you off the ground. He quickly takes you in the direction of a group of cars that will provide the cover he needs to take whatever it is he intends to take from you. You kick and try to scream but he tightens his arm around your throat so you can’t make a sound. Your mind races, “The self defense class I took…it said to grab his right thumb…no his left thumb…but it is behind my back…I am supposed to grab his thumb and twist it backward and to the outside of his body…or was it the inside…I can’t breath…oh no…what is he going to do to me…”

Most self defense courses will teach you very good techniques to defend yourself against an attacker. But successful execution of those techniques requires two things. 1) You must be so familiar with the technique that you can apply it full force without thinking about it step by step. 2) You must overcome the fear, panic and acts of instinct that exist during an attack so that you can apply the technique with focus.

Often, women who have taken self defense courses are attacked and fail to defend themselves even though they know the techniques. It is not the fault of what they have been taught or who taught it. The techniques work for those who have had the time to practice them daily with a partner who provides true resistance to it. The instructor who taught it probably could bring an attacker down with those exact moves without even thinking about the steps involved. But that is the key. If you don’t have a partner and time every day to practice and get these techniques down to the point where they come naturally without thought, they will probably not be much good to you. There is no time for detailed thought in an attack. The assailant doesn’t wait for you to grab the right part of his arm. He does not give in as you pull him over. He moves fast and fights back! For this reason, it is important to work with your built in instincts instead of trying to override them with technical moves. Only then can you act with the speed and effectiveness necessary to escape your attacker.

That is where Natural Response Self Defense comes in.

  • We take what your body naturally wants to do when you are attacked and teach you how to work with that to overcome your attacker.
  • We provide you with a tool that works perfectly with this kind of defense theory.
  • Most importantly, we teach you how to tune into your instincts and environment in order to prevent being attacked in the first place.
